Top 6 Poor Listening Habits

1. ATM – Automatic Talking machine. Always have to “one up” the other person with a better story of your own.
2. The FAR problem – Formulate A Response while someone is talking, instead of listening to what they are saying.
3. Sentencing – Finishing people’s sentences for them.
4. Mr. or Mrs. Fix It – Solving or fixing the other person’s problem for them with a one-sentence solution to a complex problem.
5. Don’t Worry, Be Happy – Reassuring is not listening. We invalidate a person’s message by saying “Everything will be okay.”
6. Me, Me, Me! – Always turning the conversation back to me – the “me, too” people.

Be Done With It

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
