“If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear.”  D&C 38:30

I grew up in Independence, Missouri.    For as long as I can remember, I loved reading, and when I graduated from Van Horn High School, I worked in our family business – International Lectures.  My father was a speaker, and I dreamed of the day I’d be passionate enough about something that I could get out there myself and do some speaking of my own.

While raising three children, I went back to college and started writing my first novel.  I discovered I did have some writing talent, and found that it was something I really enjoyed doing.   In 1989, while thinking about how I was the one who managed the affairs in my home, I wondered what my family would do if anything happened to me.  I knew they’d be clueless.   In gathering and compiling my own information, I realized that this might be a helpful tool to others.  That prompted me to write “All They’ll Need to Know,” which is a booklet to help others record information that would be valuable to their families in their absence.  In the past 20 years,  I’ve  sold over 20,000 copies of the book and now sell it online as an ebook through my publishing company, Emerson Publications.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and that gives me plenty of opportunities to speak.   The church has also given me the background for what I’m doing today.   While many people reading this might not know anything about the doctrines of the church, they know that we are big on genealogy, family values, and food storage.    In my 30 years in the church, I’ve learned the value of living providently, of paying an honest tithe, and in learning to prepare for whatever might come my way.

I’m excited about sharing this information with you.   This isn’t a site that I will build overnight.  It will always be a work in progress because there’s always something new to share.   I look forward to your comments because I am always interested in knowing what you’re interested in learning more about.
